Cantrips - From A Darebin Cave

$40.00

Cantrips is the solo project of Melbourne's Patrick Ryan, blending acid-folk with groove-heavy rhythms. His new album From a Darebin Cave takes listeners on a reflective journey through themes of transformation, solitude, and emotional rebirth. Through atmospheric instrumentation and deeply personal lyrics, Ryan crafts songs that feel like private conversations, inviting listeners into his world while leaving space for their own reflections.

Centered around the nylon guitar and voice, this album draws inspiration from late 60s/early 70s acts like Nick Drake, Terry Callier, and Donovan. The album also incorporates string arrangements reminiscent of Frank Sinatra's Watertown and late 60s psychedelic pop. This unique sound was crafted by two keyboardists emulating a string quartet, complemented by drums, percussion, double bass, and pedal steel guitar.

Patrick Ryan - Vocals, Classical Guitar
Hudson Whitlock - Drums
Gordon Li - Double Bass
Robyn Poppins - Percussion
Joe Orton - Pedal Steel, Electric Guitar
Jazz Johnston - Synthesizer
Jethro Curtin - Synthesizer

Composed and Produced by Patrick Ryan
Engineered and Mixed by Henry Jenkins
